Is that YouTube handle still available?
YouTube handles are the @name in your channel URL (youtube.com/@handle). Check one against live channels and YouTube's rules, plus the matching domains for your channel's site.
One check covers .com / .ai / .io domains plus Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, GitHub and Reddit handles.
YouTube handle rules
- Length: 3 to 30 characters.
- Characters: letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and periods. No spaces or other symbols.
- Case: handles are case-insensitive — youtube.com/@BrandName and youtube.com/@brandname reach the same channel.
- Renaming: you can change your handle up to twice every 14 days. A released handle is not held for you — after a system delay it can be picked up by another channel.
What each result means
The platform returned no profile for this handle. That is a strong signal it is free, but the only definitive test is completing signup — some platforms hide banned or reserved names the same way.
We found a live public profile at this handle. Someone owns it right now.
Honest answer: the platform is currently blocking automated lookups (rate limits, anti-bot walls). We never guess — use the review link to confirm yourself in one click.
YouTube occasionally serves consent walls and region redirects to automated lookups, which lands the check in 'manual check required'. It means unverified, not taken.
The handle is taken. Now what?
On YouTube the strongest variants say what the channel is: @brand.tv, @brandshow, @brandlabs, @learnbrand. Because handles allow hyphens and periods, you can also split words (@easy-name) — but keep it typeable, people say handles out loud in videos.
Channels rebrand and free their handles more often than you would think — creators get two changes every 14 days, so handles churn. A watch keeps checking yours and emails you when the status flips to available.
Frequently asked questions
Can I claim an inactive YouTube handle?
There is no request process for inactive handles. YouTube reserves the right to reclaim handles in impersonation or trademark cases via its reporting flows, but ordinary users cannot file for a dormant one. Watching the handle for a release is the realistic option.
What is the difference between a handle and a channel name?
The channel name is free-form display text and does not need to be unique. The handle is the unique @name in your URL and mentions. Two channels can both be named 'Easy Name', but only one gets @easyname.
Does my handle change my channel URL?
Yes — your handle is your URL: youtube.com/@handle. Legacy /c/ and /user/ URLs still redirect, but the handle URL is the one YouTube promotes everywhere.
What does 'manual check required' mean?
It means YouTube blocked or redirected our automated lookup (consent pages, rate limits), so we could not verify the handle either way. Use the review link to check the channel page yourself.
What happens to my old handle if I change it?
It goes back into the pool. YouTube does not hold it for you, so if you might switch back, put a watch on it before you change — or better, do not release it at all.
